Breakdancing Shakespeare celebrates 20th Anniversary with stellar performance of Romeo and Juliet
7.26.26
Peace!
This past weekend, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Breakdancing Shakespeare, and I’m filled with gratitude.
I’m incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to be part of this program for so many years and to witness its growth. One of the highlights of the weekend was reconnecting with alumni from across the years and seeing the lasting impact this program has had on so many artists. It was also amazing to see all three performances come close to selling out, with audiences bringing incredible energy and support. It was truly special to see all the alumni, parents, and dedicated supporters who make this community so vibrant.
A heartfelt thank you to my team at Hartford Stage for your dedication, creativity, and commitment to bringing this production to life. I’m equally grateful to our phenomenal cast and crew, whose passion, hard work, and trust made every performance something special. It has been especially cool to work alongside my brother, Noah Black, who actually starred as Romeo in this years production—watching him grow in his artistic journey is fulfilling and energizing. I’m very proud of his work as a B-Boy and actor.
Thank you to everyone—past and present—who has been part of this journey. It’s an honor to continue contributing to a program that celebrates storytelling through Shakespeare, hip-hop, and breaking. Here’s to 20 incredible years and many more to come.

Brandon awared with William A. Yandow Educator Award by The Bushnell Theatre

I am deeply humbled and grateful to receive the William A. Yandow Educator Award from The Bushnell!
Since becoming a teaching artist with The Bushnell in 2022, I have had the privilege of sharing the culture, history, and joy of hip-hop with students across the greater Hartford area. Hip-hop is a powerful vehicle for community, resilience, and self-expression, and every classroom reminds me that my students teach me just as much as I teach them.
Thank you to The Bushnell for this incredible honor, and to every student and mentor who has shared their energy with me along the way. I am immensely grateful and look forward to continuing to inspire and learn through hip-hop!

Peace!
On Saturday June 6 2026 myself along with The Purpose Dance Company and recording artist Marcus Rodriguez performed a high energy piece that combined the powers of Hip-Hop, dance, music and the community at the Hartford Taste Food Festival.
It was great to be in and around the community, celebrating art, food and community. Thank you to everyone who helped but the showcase together!
Special thanks to 224 Ecospace for being our rehearsal home and hub.
